WINTER BREAK 2008!!

Postby SeanBordeaux on Nov 14th, 2008, 1:00 am

Dear Axia College Student,

The following FAQs are provided to answer any questions you might have about the upcoming winter break for online courses.

Q: What are the dates of the winter break?
A: The dates for the winter break for Axia College are 12/22/08-1/4/09.
NOTE: There will be some Axia College courses with a start date of 12/30/08. Those courses will not experience a break.

Q: Does my course schedule already reflect the holiday break?
A: Yes. The end dates for all courses affected by the holiday break have been updated and are retrievable via the Schedule and Grades link on the student website.

Q: If I am enrolled in a course that starts on 12/30/08, how do I handle New Years Eve and New Years Day?
A: Faculty will post materials as usual, but have been advised to remain flexible with students potentially posting for the first time, a few days late into the course.

Q: Is there a break for Thanksgiving in 2008?
A: No. All classes will continue during Thanksgiving week. Faculty have arranged the assignment schedule so that students do not need to be online on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, 11/27/08) or the day after Thanksgiving (Friday, 11/28/08).

Q: Can I post messages in the classroom forums during the winter break?
A: Yes, when the classroom forums are available. The forums will be available during the break except for possible scheduled maintenance downtimes, which will be announced in advance. Posting is allowed, but cannot be required. Students may spend the entire break period offline without any grade impact, and faculty are not required to provide instruction, feedback, or grades during the break.

Q: If a student posts messages during the break, will those messages be counted towards the student's attendance?
A: No. Only messages that are posted during the scheduled course weeks will count towards attendance.

Q: If a student posts messages during the break, can those messages count towards the student's participation score?
A: No. If students want to work on assignments on their own, that's fine, but class discussion should be held during the scheduled course weeks, so students who are taking the break offline will not be left out.

Q: If a student chooses to work during the break, can the student take that time off once the course has resumed?
A: No. Students may not substitute the break week for scheduled course weeks.

Q: If my Online course ends on the Sunday, 12/21/08, when will I receive my final grade?
A: Grades are due seven days after the course end date. However, since days during the break period do not count as Online days, the grades for an Online course that ends on Sunday, 12/21/08, are not due until Sunday, 1/11/09.

Q: When will I receive feedback on assignments that I turned in the week before the break starts?
A: The answer to this question is similar to the answer above. Faculty have until the week we return after break to provide feedback on assignments, but if faculty choose to provide feedback earlier, students will surely appreciate it.

Have a safe and happy holiday season!
