Hello,
I found myself out of work, and unable to find a new job in the computer industry because every employer requires a degree, even though I've configured and setup computers since elementary school. (Say Apple ][e and ][c + TRS-80!) So I have found myself enrolled at UOP, and here I am. I feel the online education program to be a bit lacking. I understand why they are no longer called teachers, these facilitators, they no longer teach! They simply hand out materials, wait for you to turn them in, and then grade (oops, provide feedback) on your assignments. There is no student interaction outside the so-called 'discussion forum' and I tried to share with my first class the Google Chat feature, and I was told that Google Chat would be unacceptable to discuss the curriculum, I was told, "All discussions related to this assignment must be in the main forum." I tried to tell the facilitator that this service was provided by the university, and she did not seem to understand what I was saying. Oh well. I would like the online education environment to have some sort of 'lecture' at the start of each week, or day, or whenever. There is no direction provided, and more than half the students in my second set of classes have no idea about their email interface, one person told me yesterday that he has only checked it once, and had no idea there was a chat feature incorporated into it. Yikes.
