Instant messaging and problems

Postby kealyp5 on Dec 9th, 2008, 11:16 pm

Hi Jessie,

Just a quick question, I have yahoo instant messaging, and I just recently changed to the newer version. For some reason, yahoo closes me out and I get a message from them that says we are busy try later. Then I cant log back in and I have to restart to get back into it. Any ideas? I have avg security and it says Im fine but Im thinking I need to do a deep scan? How do I do this? Any help would be appreciated, and Thanks! =]

Typically connection errors with instant messaging programs either comes from an outdated version (not your case) or from settings on your PC that prevent it from functioning as it should. If the connection issues are intermittent, it could be your internet connection (a restart would typically sort this out) or it could be your firewall or anti virus settings.

What version of windows are you using? and what version of yahoo?

Have any notices from your computer popped up saying anything about something being blocked "for your protection"?

Have you tried completely removing yahoo messenger and reinstalling it with a new download?

Do you have any addons installed, such as one of those smilie packs etc?

Jesse, I have windows vista and my anti-virus is avg the newest version available. I hav'nt tried removing yahoo and then reinstalling which is looking more like what I need to do. I havent had anything come up with a message other then we are busy try again later, and then I cant get back on. And I do not have any of the add ons like the smileys I learned my lesson about those, they are loaded with viruses. Oh and I have the newest version of yahoo, 9.0.

Ok, that helps some.. knowing that you have the latest versions installed and no extra stuff getting in the way narrows it down a bit. Also, did this just start out of the blue when it was once working flawlessly, or was there some change made about the same time the trouble started happening?

If you are unable to connect to the yahoo service there has to be a problem somewhere between your PC and yahoo's servers. I would first start off by un-installing yahoo and reinstalling it, if that does not work check to make sure that any hardware (routers etc) that you have between your PC and your internet connection are working properly.

If the issue is completely isolated to yahoo messenger (not MSN or AIM etc) and everything else is working on your PC properly, i would advise a call to your internet provider to get some connection troubleshooting done.

Thanks Jesse :D

I did, as a matter of fact contact yahoo. They also have suggested to uninstall and reinstall yahoo messenger as well. When I first had yahoo messenger, it worked fine up until approx. 2 months ago and then it was crashing. I was told by a good friend the reason was I needed to update my yahoo. I did that and started to encounter the problems I am having now. :think:But I am wondering, if I uninstall messenger then reinstall it, wont I loose all of my contacts?

All of your contacts and information are stored on yahoos servers, so you can uininstall, reinstall or change computers as much as you like and all your information will be there.. just as if you log in on someone elses computer.
