Gen 105 Final Project

Postby jgavette on Feb 19th, 2009, 9:09 pm

This class is pretty easy for me, but it is completely frustrating at the same time. The final project is a survival guide at approximately 1000 words... When I think survival guide, i think something much larger. I am having an issue getting prepared for this because I know I am overthinking it but I just can't wrap my head around this short of a project for the amount of info they want us to put in it. Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

First of all, I too, had a question: Does anyone know if the final project has to be in APA format?

And as for your question, basically you need to write 1000-1250 words and make it something that YOU can refer back to in the future, since it is supposed to be your action plan. It should be specific or related to you, based on your assignment answers & instructor's comments from the last 8wks, etc. In general, you need to write about these topics from the weeks I mention below:

Using Axia's Educational Resources (from week 3)
  • downloading files for use on your machine or portable device
  • navigating the university library
  • identifying key information within article
Upholding academic honesty (from week 4)
  • understanding axia's academic honesty policy
  • understanding the consequences of plagiarism
  • avoiding plagiarism
Setting & achieving goals (week 5)
  • identifying long- and short-term educational and career goals
  • how to reach goals despite obstacles
  • how an axia degree relates to goals
Managing time wisely (week 6)
  • balancing time between courses at axia
  • juggling school, work, and family responsibilities
  • prioritizing & avoiding time-wasters
Fostering Reading Comprehension and retention (week 7)
  • using reading comprehension techniques for successful reading
  • using SQ3R and other study habits
Applying personality & learning styles (week 8)
  • using your personality type for distance learning success
  • developing your multiply intelligences
  • relating to others who have different personality types & intelligences
Hope this helps!

Hey Justin,

Try to focus on more of whats needed in a survival guide instead concentrating on every single detail. I did mine perfectly with the exception of APA formatting because I'm hard headed but you know.. :D

Think about what a student would need to focus on more to complete online classes-- time and scheduling, how to interact with the AXIA College library database and Excellent Centers, still completing assignments on time rather than wait until the last minute even though it's online, etc.

If you need more assistance let me know. I know that the syllabus did outline exactly what was desired in the survival guide so try and just complete those items.

So you're saying that it has to be in APA format? Cuz honestly, mine isn't... After all, the syllabus just said to make an action plan for ME to use as a tool... And if it IS for me to use, I sure in heck wouldn't want it in APA format! In APA format, it'd have less appeal for me to use or read it in the future... :violin:

I've asked the instructor but I am still waiting on a response; doubt if I'll get one before it's due though.

Although I am only in week 3, I have started the final project. It is proving to be much easier than I thought. I know nothing about APA formatting, nor do I care at this very moment really. My idea is that once I am able to get this finished, I will at least have most of what I need done in advance, which will take away some of the stress even if it does need to be put into APA format later on. ;)

So what I'm gathering is that there really is no wrong way to write the final project. It's pretty much whatever works best for you as an individual, right?
