Ways to help the site grow

Postby Jesse on Nov 23rd, 2008, 12:40 pm

I have found a few ways for us all to help the site grow and would appreciate any help you are all willing to provide. As you know, this is a community site and the best way for us all to be able to find useful information here is for it to grow, the more members we have the better the site will become.

Social networking is the latest and greatest trend on the internet today, with sites like LOG IN TO SEE LINKS IN POSTS, LOG IN TO SEE LINKS IN POSTS, LOG IN TO SEE LINKS IN POSTS, LOG IN TO SEE LINKS IN POSTS and many others, spreading the word about valuable sites has never been easier.

I would encourage everyone here to register with these sites and submit a favorable review or simple stumble, digg etc the site, which will get more visitors, more members and more content on this site. It only takes a few minutes and will help us all.

Most of the popular social networking sites can be located by clicking the button you see at the top right of every page on this site.

Also, please put a link to this site on your Myspace or Facebook page, post links in any forums you visit and tell your friends or classmates to stop by.

I hope you are all having a fantastic weekend, and thank you in advance.

Thanks Dawn, also if anyone wants to help sites that they like, without having to do any additional work, you can download a few toolbars that come in very handy.

The first is from stumbleupon.com The make a toolbar that is very handy, it allows you to "stumble" sites, articles or pages that you like simply by clicking "I Like It" from the tool bar, it keeps track of the sites you like and provides more based upon your personal preferences. Its very handy if you are interested in certain topics and like finding similar resources. the toolbar can be obtained by clicking LOG IN TO SEE LINKS IN POSTS

Secondly, Alexa.com makes a toolbar that puts a small statistic tracking thing on the bottom of your browser window, showing the popularity statistics etc of the site you are currently viewing. This information is handy, especially when doing research for a written assignment (lower number means higher rank, which means more credibility in most cases) but the really beneficial part of their plugin is that it allows the sites you frequently visit to rank higher on alexa, which is very important to other search engines and directories on the internet. So, to make a long boring short, having the alexa toolbar helps the sites you like to visit by helping others find it and brings in more traffic, for a site such as this, new traffic means new posts which means more information available for every one :-) the alexa toolbar can be found LOG IN TO SEE LINKS IN POSTS

There is a Yahoo group that is similar to this site that I just joined. My first post: please come over here and join! So, I'm going to return the favor. For all those struggling with FIN200, as well as others, there are templates and lots of help over there. Also, because many people who are active in the group get every message posted to the board, it is an additional option when you need help!

Leinglett,
I came over here because of your post at riverview cafe. you will find that site very helpful for FIN 200. Speaking of that classes I noticed that it wasn't on the class list it really needs to be they keep telling us it is one of the hardest classes at axia almost everyone is struggling and could use all the help they can get. That class alone could build this site very quickly.

Thank you for coming over. :) Unfortunately, this site hasn't been built up as much as the Riverview Cafe for FIN200. I found that place late in my class and didn't get any responses to the one request for help that I posted. I'm still a participating member there, just a little disappointed. I wish that the academic counselors would tell everyone about both of these sites!!! By the way, I don't know how or why, but a aced my final and wound up with a B- in that class!

:-) I agree that there are many classes on this site that could use some more useful information. The best way for this site to build up in that department is for users like yourself to post anything you find helpful, any questions you may have and also assist in answering any others questions you may be able to help with.

We are getting a lot of people stopping by this site, but if they see no information for what they are looking for, or the class they are looking for help in seems to not have any "active participants" so they will often times just move along.. Adding information to the various classes will give those just stopping by incentive to register and in turn, become contributing members of this site.. its a difficult process starting up a site like this, everyone wants info but noone wants to be the first one to post some :-)..

Were moving into our 6th month and have made some good progress, but this site still has a long way to go. With the help of members such as yourself, that process will be shortened drastically..

Thanks for posting a link to that other site, its lil bits of info such as those that will help everyone.

Hi Jesse,

I have to agree with your most recent post:

We are getting a lot of people stopping by this site, but if they see no information for what they are looking for, or the class they are looking for help in seems to not have any "active participants" so they will often times just move along..

I am looking for any help I can get in Fin200 but it seems there has been some kind of mix up and some students are working in an old textbook and some are working in a new edition. It is also my understanding that Fin200 is more or less a class for someone pursuing a Masters and not an Associates. I have not really found any usefull information at the Riverview cafe on yahoo groups either. If anyone needs help with this class, they really should talk to their facilitator or go to the Library and go to the student lab wherer there is a moderator for the various finance classes. I have had better luck in the student lab than in the yahoo group or this site combined.

I must say, Jesse, that this is a nice website and I will put out the word also to help this site grow. It is a shame though that no one really wants to participate in making it grow. It looks like all they are interested in is someone posting the answers to the assignments instead of formulas and advice on how to go about getting the most out of the assignments.

Sincerely,

lonewolf49

I am going to be working over the next week to try to find ways to encourage more active participation. The members who have posted information, questions or answers have been a great asset but we need more.

Something as simple as someone posting a question when they have one they cant find an answer to will typically get things rolling. As with any new site, this one will take some time to develop into a highly useful resource, its just this initial "growth" phase that is difficult. I think in time, with enough members we will get to where we want to be.

I definitely appreciate all who have shared and participated thus far, and those who will in the future. Please feel free to spread the word to those you feel may benefit from this site. The more members we get, the faster the site will evolve.

thanks again.
